It’s one of the largest urban parks and I will admit, it’s one of my favorite Los Angeles spots, I’m talking about Griffith Park. With something for everyone, it’s the perfect place to spend a day, and with so much to do, you’ll have to come back over and over again.
You’ve seen the famous observatory, high atop the hill, memorable for appearances in several films, but it’s not the only spot that has been in the spotlight, you’ll find that the park is a popular spot for the entertainment industry; films, music videos, TV shows and even video games have all been drawn to the picturesque to provide the perfect background.
There is so much to do at the park that sometimes, it is difficult to know exactly where to start, but there is definitely something for everyone. From the observatory, you have a clear view of the famous Hollywood sign and on a clear day you can see the City of Angeles from above.
Want to get active, then you are in the right spot, with miles and miles of trails, you can hike and jog in beautiful scenery. There is also, golf, tennis, soccer, swimming and bicycle rentals to explore.
The kiddos will love the merry go round, pony and train rides. Shane’s Inspiration is a playground that is accessible to children of all abilities. Explore the Autry Museum of the West, the Travel Town Museum or head over to the Los Angeles Zoo and don’t worry adults will enjoy all of the above too. And adults there’s much more to keep you busy too. Catch a concert at the Greek theater or take a horseback ride to get a different view of the park.
The park does have it’s share of wildlife including a variety of snakes, yes there are rattlesnakes, coyotes, and even mountain lions so just make sure that you are always aware of your surroundings, especially in some of the more remote areas of the park.
There are so many options for the perfect photos, but unless it’s just you taking personal photos, just double check before scheduling a photo session there, just to make sure you don’t need a permit, otherwise you might be disappointed.
Just a quick drive will get you away from the city and closer to nature.
Now I need to go back to the park.
