One of the best parts of living in Los Angeles is the ability to hop in car and in just a few hours you can be in any number of fantastic places. Joshua Tree National Park for example, just a 2 1/2 hour drive from LA and you’re in a completely different world. It’s the closest national Park to LA and you’ll want to bring your camera because you will definitely want these photos. We made a day trip of it coming in from Twenty Nine Palms we had a great day I’m sure you’ll enjoy this popular destination.
We got there early to and found managed to find a lot of quiet spaces and beat the heat sort of. We were there in the end of summer, but if you can make it in the spring you’ll find a pop of color from the wildflowers. This is the desert so be sure to plan accordingly. So large it extends to two Desert areas, the Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert which is part of the Sonoran Desert system.
A few Tips
- Cell Phone Coverage is Limited
- You Might See a Coyote or two
- Be Prepared for the Weather the desert is hot in the summer but the winter nights can be surprisingly cold.
- Dress in layers
- Make sure you have plenty of water if you’re going to be out in the sun
Here’s a small sample of some of the things to be seen
- Joshua Trees
- Skull Rock
- Cholla Cactus Garden
- Inspiration Point
- Grab a bite to eat at the Joshua Tree Saloon
I highly recommend keeping a close eye out for snakes (I really really don’t like snakes and it is the desert after all)
Our quick trip just gave us a glimpse of all Joshua Tree has to offer so I guess we’ll have to go back for some more Exploring. Sounds like it’s time to schedule a photo session there.
