I’ve lived in Los Angeles for years and I have to admit I’ve never quite made it to the Getty Museum. The one time we tried to go, we couldn’t find any parking so our plans were nixed. I do advise you get there early to get your spot and make sure that you don’t miss out.
I finally had my second chance to explore this fabulous place with a great group of photographers. It’s always fun to get together with other photographers and this was no different. The Getty provides an unending supply of inspiration.
Of course you’ll be hooked by the architecture. One thing that we noticed right away was the meticulous attention to detail that is everywhere. Everything is taken care of as if it was brand new. Every detail is carefully thought out and nothing is left to chance or overlooked.
Walking through the exhibits is really awe inspiring, of course I love art so it’s easy for me to be inspired but there really is something for everyone. From the classics to the contemporary, painting, sculpture, drawings and of course photography you’ll know that you have to come back so you can take in everything.
The architecture is enthralling and the gardens are beautiful. When there isn’t a marine layer (there was one on this day) you have magnificent views of the ocean and although it did not make an appearance for us, yes the ocean is down there somewhere. The gardens are meticulously designed and cared for and provide a beautiful retreat from busy Los Angeles.
With no admission fee and just the cost of parking it’s the perfect place for a family to spend a morning or an afternoon.
If you haven’t had a chance to immerse yourself in the art, or even if you just need to go back, the Getty is waiting for you.
